I'm Kelis, a 22-year-old Journalist from North West London.

From the age of 16, I knew I wanted to be a journalist as I used to spend my spare pocket money on fashion and culture titles such as Dazed and I-D Magazine. 

I remember being in awe of the thought-provoking editorials, particularly one of the Dazed 2015 covers featuring Amandla Stenberg discussing her role as an activist and her use of media channels to advocate for social justice. 

Following this experience, I was given the opportunity to create my own media project to positively uplift my community. My zine 'Coyboy' focuses on putting a spotlight on POC creatives and showcasing their talents through journalism, photography - just to name a  few! 

During the process of brainstorming the content for my zine, I was able to unlock skills such as interviewing, writing copy and online print production. 

I was elated to share my zine at a creative showcase which fuelled me to start my own blog and to become involved in student media during my studies at University of Leicester for a Journalism degree. 

After completing my dissertation, I began applying for journalism jobs and was told about Creative Access, where I came across an Internship by Daily Mirror and successfully got the role. 

In my previous role, I worked as an Editorial Assistant at Daily Mirror, across a variety of desks including Video, Print News, Print Features, Online News, Showbiz, and Politics. 

I have also freelanced for publications for both written work and content production including Labaatan, Gen-B Magazine, Inside a Black Girls Mind and Leicester Student Magazine.
